Sadlers Wells

On the 3rd December we went to Sadler’s Wells to do a few little workshops on jobs in the media industry. We we're introduced to Rachel and a few others who stuck with us for the day.
At first we were introduced to Mark who worked as a web manager and he talked us through his job and how much money they put in to the web itself. I was quite surprised; as I didn't think it would be that much. He told us that if we were to work in the multi-media we needed a few skills, we needed HTML knowledge and we needed good creative ideas.
After, we were introduced to Nadine; she was apart of the programming department. her job was to basically plan out when different dancers are coming in, setting up and how long they would be dancing for. After her talk we had a task we had to complete. We we're given a time of the year and a few random shows that play at the Sadler’s wells throughout the year. Out task was to pick out the ones that we think would show at that part of the year and organize it as a monthly calendar but also thinking about the days where they had to set up. When we were presenting back to the class I think our group was quite successful but we could have thought about it more because a few faults came up. We were also given a tour of the stage and all the backstage parts; I found it really good to see it backstage because it gives me a different view on it all.
After lunch we met one of the finance directors called Mark. He showed us all the figures they spent n certain parts of the theatre including, web, lighting, facilities, peacock theatre etc.
Then we were set another task, we were given figures and all the different aspects and had to match them up.
When we we're feeding back to the rest of the class we we're all nearly right. They spent the most money of Sadler’s wells, and the second most on the peacock theatre. I learned that some company's paid Google so when they search something related to them, the company would we the top hit.
The last activity we did was about writing reviews. We were given a normal review written by someone about the recent bond movie and had to annotate it. We thought of all the different words used in the review that we wouldn't usually use in our everyday vocabulary and were asked to come up with our own. I found it quite difficult because I can’t really think on the spot but when it came to feedback, I was quite pleased because all my comments we're positive.
Overall the day was very successful because I learned a lot and I had fun. If I were to go back again I would like to see all the costumes because in future I would like to be a fashion designer/costume designer.
