My Second Trip At The BBC

On the 11th November our creative and media class went to the BBC 21cc again for a workshop on editing. During our time there we managed to interview different people with different job roles on the BBC. Our group managed to interview a cameraman and someone who works in the music industry who organizes all the times and dates when people come in.
We was introduced to a man called rob who gave us an introduction to editing and set us our task for the day.
When we were out filming I found it quite difficult as I was the director because I couldn't really control my group but I think the advantage was that I could contribute my ideas in more which would result to a piece I would much rather prefer.
I think the first half of the day was more successful than the second because we got a lot more work done and I think my strengths are in directing rather than editing.
The second half of the day went alright but I think we could have done better because everyone was quite tired so no one was really concentrating.
Even though the day was half successful I still came out learning something, I learned how to use final cut pro rather than iMovie. I learned how to put inputs and outputs in a certain bit of footage and I also learned how to transfer, save and edit from the camera to the computer.
if I were to go back and do it again I probably would pay more attention when we're editing and
Try to improve on that, as I think that’s my weak points.

My Wall Display

In graphics & textiles we were asked to create a wall display as our assessment.
Our task was to get into groups of 2 or 3, choose a decade, research the fashion, music, films and famous people of this decade and create an informative and imaginative wall display.
In our first few lessons we were just researching on the internet and we were putting together notes and information for our wall display. When it came to the last two weeks, we started putting it all up.
I didn’t really enjoy the researching part because I find it’s just copying and pasting all the time. I wasn’t really gaining and knowledge. Whereas when we were doing the practical part of it all I really enjoyed it. I loved picking the colour scheme and setting it all out on the wall.
My group never really let me down much because everyone was really hard working and no one was really absent on the days we were putting everything together. The only let down was, after we had done all the research our folders went missing but within the next 2 lessons we had found them so I was quite lucky.
When we were assessing everything, we had to remember what aspects of the display were going to be assessed.

Some of these were:
1. To make it colourful and eye catching
2. To make your layout unique
3. To make sure the images quality is good
(no pixilation)
4. To style the lettering well- some letters big to draw your attention, and some small for detail.
5. Does it reflect the decade? And how do you know?
6. Is it interesting and informative?
Our final display was really good. I was quite happy with myself and my group because we had met all the targets we were set. The thing I was happy with the most was that our information was detailed and the layout of our display was different to the other ones.
If I had the chance to do it again and improve on it, I would have planned out what the wall was actually going to look like instead of just putting anything up anywhere.
All in all I liked the project and i would recommend it for the people who are doing the diploma next year.

Disappearing Numbers performance

On Thursday before half term we went to go and watch a performance at the barbican theatre called disappearing numbers. Before we went to watch it, I knew it had something to do with maths but I had no idea how it was possible to create a performance out of it.
When the performance started, I was really confused because I didn't see how anything was fitting together. At first it was quite enjoyable to watch because there were quite a few funny moments, but as the performance went on I just got more and more confused. By the end of the performance I was just lost.
Even though I didn’t get much of what the performance was about, I still gained a lot of knowledge. I loved the multi media that was used and that gave me new ideas on how I would set out a performance. The board that some of the pictures were projected on on were so realistic, I thought it looked really good. And all the sound effects that were used made everything seem real. I also loved the fact that it was very non naturalistic. Although that’s what made it quite confusing, the way the scenes switched was really good.
For £10 I think it was something worth going to see. I didn’t get much of the performance but I liked the techniques that were used and it was a very enjoyable night. I would recommend it for older people because it’s quite hard to understand what’s going on and I don’t think many students will be interested in maths.
