Design Museum

On Tuesday 21 April me and my creative and media class went to the design museum to see Hussein Chalayan’s work. Hussein Chalayan was born on 12 August 1970 in Nicosia, Cyprus. I found his work really interesting and unique because he uses netting and electronic materials rather than plain cotton. His clothes are very versatile. In one of the rooms, the walls were surrounded by pictures from the ottoman empire and the fight in Cyprus (1821-1829). There was also a short video of random things in the Turkish culture. e.g. olives, Sünnet, feta cheese & watermelons etc.. The exhibition was quite scary though, the rooms seemed really isolated and bland. I drew one of my favourite dresses of his in my textiles book and I hope to research him in more detail in the future.
